Bacillus megaterium

Definition
noun
An endospore forming rod-shaped bacterium recognized as an endophytes involved in the production of various proteins used in medical and industrial purposes.
Supplement
Bacillus megaterium is an extremely large bacterium at about 60 micrometers which is often used to study protein localization, structures and membranes. It is known as saprophyte and aerobic which is usually found in soil that grows from 3’C-45’C and some isolated from geothermal lake with a temperatures of 63’C.
Bacillus megaterium is considered as an industrial organism that is capable to produce a variety of proteins due to its desirable cloning host that generates numerous plasmid vectors while remain stable because of its unique large variation of enzymes and as a source of bioremediation. It gives a plethora of different proteins that able to employ important medical, industrial and scientific advances.
Bacillus megaterium acts as agent in biocontrol of plant diseases and has been significant since it produces penicillin amidase used to make synthetic penicillin, glucose dehydrogenase used as an indicator in glucose blood test and amylases utilized in baking industry. It also produced vitamin B12, pyruvate and drugs for antiviral properties as well as enzymes for modifying corticosteroid and amino acid dehydrogenases.
