A deficiency of circulating basophils in the blood.

Basopenia is found in patients with autoimmune urticaria. In humans, basopenia is when basophil count is less than 0.01 x 10 9/L.
Word origin: basophil + Greek penía (deficiency).
Synonym: basocytopenia, basophilic leukopenia.
