A disc like structure in the plane of the equator of the spindle that separates the two sets of chromosomes during cytokinesis; also involved in the formation of cell wall between the two daughter cells following cell division.

Cell plate is the structure found inside the dividing cells of terrestrial plants and some algae. It develops in the middle plane of the cell separating two daughter cells during cell division. In animal cells, cytokinesis is carried out by the formation of cleavage furrow but in plant cells it is by the formation of cell plate.
