A technique using a light microscope to study properties of organic or inorganic substances using the phenomena of fluorescence and phosphorescence instead of, or in addition to, reflection and absorption.

Fluorescence microscopy is used in FISH analysis where a fluorescent probe is located if bound to specific DNA sequence that is complementary to it.
