(1) A molecule made up of six structural subunits, such as an oligomer (or polymer) having six monomers
(2) (virology) Any of the clusters of six protein subunits (capsomeres) in icosahedral virus capsids
(3) (microbiology) The fundamental unit constituting (the flat surfaces of) the polyhedral shell of carboxysome present in certain bacteria
(4) A reagent used in molecular biology, such as random hexamers used in first strand cDNA synthesis
