Supplement
Lycinibacillus fusiformis has a size of at least 5 to 10 micrometer in length and 0.6 to 0.8 micrometer in width with pointed end and somewhat swollen in the middle which is always linked with the Spirochoeta vincenti. In pure culture, it is grown on ascetic fluid agar under anaerobic conditions that form whitish colonies akin to streptococci after 48hrs incubation with an offensive odor.
Lycinibacillus fusiformis contains peptidoglycan with lysine, alanine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid. It has been observed in ulcero-membranous angina, appendicitis, pyorrhea alveolaris, bronchitis, alveolaris, gangrenous laryngitis and brain abscess.
Lycinibacillus fusiformis is associated in hospital gangrene and more common in Vincent’s gingivitis an acute and painful infection of the tooth margins and gums caused by this microorganisms which manifest by swollen, bleeding gums and ulcers that eventually spread to the throat and tonsils. In ulcerative gingivitis it developed central round or spindle-shaped swelling with dark-ground illumination due to the influence of other factors such as treatment and growth condition.
