(Science: zoology) One of the mouth appendages of crustacea, situated next behind the maxillae. Crabs have three pairs, but many of the lower Crustacea have but one pair of them.
Synonym: jawfoot, and foot jaw.
Origin: Maxilla – L. Pes, pedis, foot.
