A state of a physical system at rest or in unaccelerated motion, and where the sum of all forces and torque acting on each particle of the system is zero.
Supplement
For mechanical equilibrium to occur, the following conditions have to be met:

  • the vector sum of all external forces is zero
  • the sum of all the moments of all external forces about any line is zero
