The spore produced by meiosis, such as the precursor cells of gametophytes of angiosperms and gymnosperms.
Supplement
The meiospores are haploid spores found in flowers of angiosperms or cones of gymnosperms.
The meiospores are of two types:

  • Microspores, the meiospores that give rise to a male gametophyte.
  • Megaspores (or macrospores), the meiospores that give rise to a female gametophyte.
