A dental prosthesis that is used temporarily, usually for only a short period of time, until a definitive dental treatment is provided

Provisional dentures are prescribed due to the following reasons:

  • aesthetics
  • better chewing or mastication
  • occlusal support

while waiting for a better and lasting dental treatment, such as a definitive denture.
