Definition
noun
A graphical representation in the shape of a pyramid showing the distribution of productivity or flow of energy through the trophic levels.
Supplement
In the Pyramid of Productivity, the lower trophic levels are shown to have more energy than the higher trophic levels. Hence, the bottom level has the greatest energy whereas the top has the lowest, hence, the diagram resembling a pyramid. That is to show that in order for the ecosystem to sustain itself, there must be more energy at lower trophic levels to maintain a stable population.
Synonym: Productivity Pyramid.
